Obama Just Made the Student Loan Program a Student Gift Program (With Your Money, Of Course)

Hey Kids… Don’t Worry About Your Student Loans, Uncle Obama’s Going to Pay Those, Too.

Barack Obama tripled the national deficit his first year in office. It will be larger this year.

But, that won’t stop him from handing out more “free” money.

Under the democrat’s new plan to bankrupt America, students will only have to pay 10% of their discretionary income on their student loan and after 20 years the government will pay the rest off.
FOX Blogs reported, via Free Republic:

Starting July 1st, when the government issues student loans, it will bypass the banks who have traditionally provided them, and directly target borrowers.

A White House press release spells it out this way, “[A]ll new federal student loans will be direct loans, delivered and collected by private companies under performance-based contracts with the Department of Education. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, ending these wasteful subsidies will free up nearly $68 billion for college affordability and deficit reduction over the next 11 years.”

But some in the President’s own party say eliminating the middle man also equals eliminating jobs.

But the President’s focus today will be more about what the bill does than what it does not.

He will also talk about the provision’s less controversial expansion of Pell Grants, as well as supporting historically black and minority institutions and caps on student loan repayments.

According to the White House, “New borrowers who assume loans after July 1, 2014, will be able to cap their student loan repayments at 10 percent of their discretionary income and, if they keep up with their payments over time, will have the balance forgiven after 20 years.”

CBO: Budget Outlook For Next Decade Has Gone From A Surplus To A $7.4 Trillion Deficit

But I’m not sure this projection represents change in our economic position so much as the government prognosticators are, increasingly, being forced by reality to set aside Obama’s rosy economic projections based more on what the liberals want to be true than reality.

Many Americans know the deficit has exploded this year. What may be less well-known is that the problem is not confined to this year or next, but stretches out at least a decade and represents a historic, multi-trillion-dollar change in the country’s fiscal fortunes.

CNBC, working with the Congressional Budget Office, found that the 10-year outlook for the nation’s deficit has deteriorated by almost $8 trillion. In effect, every man, woman and child in the United States has taken on an extra $25,000 in debt, CNBC has learned.

Comparing the CBO’s outlook in 2008 to the current forecast, CNBC found that what was once a projected $247 billion surplus for the years 2009 through 2018, is now an estimated $7.4 trillion deficit.

Meanwhile, Democrat-led efforts to government-spend our way into prosperity continue.

Hope for change.

Obama Says Tea Party Is Built Around Core Group of Birthers

Remember… He’s a uniter not a divider.
President Obama today told the state-run media that he believes the tea party is built around a core group of birthers.

The “spread the wealther” also claimed he was not a socialist.
The AP reported:

President Barack Obama says he believes the Tea Party is built around a “core group” of people who question whether he is a U.S. citizen and believe he is a socialist.

But beyond that, Obama tells NBC he recognizes the movement involves “folks who have legitimate concerns” about the national debt and whether the government is taking on too many difficult issues simultaneously.

In an interview broadcast Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show, Obama said he feels “there’s still going to be a group at their core that question my legitimacy.” But he said he didn’t want to paint Tea Party activists “in broad brushes” and he hopes to win over members who have “mainstream, legitimate concerns.”

Of course, the socialist label is something he’s worked hard to earn. The birther label is just another instance of this hard core leftist smearing those who oppose his disastrous policies and record.

Health Care Costs Will Rise 17% For Young Americans Under Obamacare

How’s that hopey-changey thing working out for ya?
Health premiums are expected to rise 17% for young adults under Obamacare.
The AP reported:

Health insurance premiums for young adults are expected to rise about 17 percent once they’re required to buy insurance four years from now. That estimate is from an analysis by Rand Health.

Young people will need to carry more of the burden of health care under the new health overhaul law. The new law limits an industry practice of charging older customers more.

Even so, the pluses could outweigh the minuses. Some 2 million people under age 26 should qualify for coverage under their parents’ health plans. And Medicaid expansion will insure 9 million more young adults.

Obama Donor Charged With Threatening to Kill GOP Whip Eric Cantor

Obama supporter threatens to kill GOP House Whip.

A Philadelphia Muslim man was charged Monday with threatening to kill GOP Whip Eric Cantor and his family.
TPM reported:

Today, a two-count complaint and warrant was filed charging Norman Leboon with threatening to kill United States Congressman Eric Cantor and his family, and threatening to kill Congressman Eric Cantor, who is an official of the United States, announced United States Attorney Michael L. Levy and FBI Special Agent in Charge Jan Fedarcyk. As set forth in the affidavit to the complaint and warrant, in or about late March, 2010, Leboon created and then transmitted a YouTube video to Google over the internet, in which he threatened to kill Congressman Cantor and his family. No harm came to the Congressman or his family as a result of Leboon’s threats.

Jammie Wearing Fool notes that Leboon, a Muslim, just so happens to be a Barack Obama donor.

Michelle Malkin found the deranged leftist’s photo.

Leboon posted the video last Wednesday.
Philly.com reported:

According to the affidavit, Leboon allegedly said in the video: “Remember Eric . . . our judgment time, the final Yom Kippur has been given. You are a liar, you’re a Lucifer, you’re a pig, a greedy [expletive] pig. You’re an abomination. You receive my bullets in your office. Remember they will be placed in your heads. You and your children are Lucifer’s abominations.”

The video was reported to the FBI in San Francisco on Friday and Leboon allegedly told agents he posted it on Wednesday.

Congressman Cantor’s office released a statement Monday saying, “The Congressman is deeply grateful for, and would like to dearly thank all local and federal law enforcement involved.”

It looks like Josh Marshall and the rest of the leftist haters may owe the GOP an apology?

Cuban Marxist Dictator Fidel Castro Praises Obama & Dems on Nationalizing Health Care

Cuban Marxist Fidel Castro congratulated Barack Obama and democrats for seizing control of the health care industry this week.
FOX blog reported:

President Obama went back to Iowa on Thursday, where he gave his first speech on health care reform in 2007, and where he won the Iowa Caucuses in 2008, but far away in Cuba, another world leader offered his congratulations.

Cuban leader Fidel Castro called the passage of health care reform a “miracle” but couldn’t resist taking some shots at Obama, saying health care in Cuba was enacted years ago. In an article published in the state run media, Castro said the passage of health care would strengthen Obama’s hand against “lobbyists and mercenaries” but then quickly moved to praising his own country.

“It is really incredible that 234 years after the Declaration of Independence … the government of that country has approved medical attention for the majority of its citizens, something that Cuba was able to do half a century ago,” Castro wrote.

Since taking office, President Obama has already lifted travel restrictions for Cuban Americans in the United States wishing to visit their home country as well as sending family members unlimited funds.

Obama’s exclusionary Easter Egg Roll

Not that there was any doubt, but Penny Starr of CNSN News reveals once again the hypocrisy of President Barack Obama (D) of public versus private use.

The Obama administration announced on Tuesday it has reserved 3,000 free tickets to the annual White House Easter Egg Roll for students in D.C.-area public and charter schools, but not for children who attend private or parochial schools.
[...]

Ever mindful of the separation of religion and state, ever mindful of the power of propaganda, the Easter Egg Roll, based on a religious holiday important to Christians, has a theme.

The theme of this year’s event is “Ready, Set, Go,” and the White House says it will “promote health and wellness.”

“All of the activities will encourage children to lead healthy and active lives and follow the First Lady’s ‘Let’s Move!’ initiative, a national campaign to combat childhood obesity,” the White House said.

The event will feature live music, sports courts, storytelling, egg rolling – and cooking stations.

Poor Demand For US Treasury Bills After Dems Pass Obamacare

The Obama disaster continues…
The passage of Obama’s nationalized health care bill freaked out investors last week causing a lower demand for US treasury bills.
The Telegraph reported, via Yid With Lid:

The yield on 10-year Treasuries – the benchmark price of global capital – surged 30 basis points in just two days last week to over 3.9pc, the highest level since the Lehman crisis. Alan Greenspan, ex-head of the US Federal Reserve, said the abrupt move may be “the canary in the coal mine”, a warning to Washington that it can no longer borrow with impunity. He said there is a “huge overhang of federal debt, which we have never seen before”.

David Rosenberg at Gluskin Sheff said Treasury yields have ratcheted up 90 basis points since December in a “destabilising fashion”, for the wrong reasons. Growth has not been strong enough to revive fears of inflation. Commodity prices peaked in January and US home sales have fallen for the last three months, pointing to a double-dip in the housing market.

Spain’s downward spiral spooks bond investors Mr Rosenberg said the yield spike recalls the move in the spring of 2007 just as the credit system started to unravel. “The question is how the equity market is going to handle this back-up in rates,” he said.

The trigger for last week’s sell-off was poor demand at Treasury auctions, linked to the passage of the Obama health care reform. Critics say it will add $1 trillion (£670bn) to America’s debt over the next decade, a claim disputed fiercely by Democrats.

Dems Threaten Congressional Show Trials After US Companies Leak Real Economic Damage of Obamacare

Late last week several US corporations leaked how the democrat’s health care bill will kill their businesses. The radicals in Congress were not pleased that these corporations would go public with this devastating information. In response, democrats threatened to call for Congressional show trials to publicly humiliate these corporations.
The Wall Street Journal reported:

It’s been a banner week for Democrats: ObamaCare passed Congress in its final form on Thursday night, and the returns are already rolling in. Yesterday AT&T announced that it will be forced to make a $1 billion writedown due solely to the health bill, in what has become a wave of such corporate losses.

This wholesale destruction of wealth and capital came with more than ample warning. Turning over every couch cushion to make their new entitlement look affordable under Beltway accounting rules, Democrats decided to raise taxes on companies that do the public service of offering prescription drug benefits to their retirees instead of dumping them into Medicare. We and others warned this would lead to AT&T-like results, but like so many other ObamaCare objections Democrats waved them off as self-serving or “political.”

Henry Waxman and House Democrats announced yesterday that they will haul these companies in for an April 21 hearing because their judgment “appears to conflict with independent analyses, which show that the new law will expand coverage and bring down costs.”

In other words, shoot the messenger. Black-letter financial accounting rules require that corporations immediately restate their earnings to reflect the present value of their long-term health liabilities, including a higher tax burden. Should these companies have played chicken with the Securities and Exchange Commission to avoid this politically inconvenient reality? Democrats don’t like what their bill is doing in the real world, so they now want to intimidate CEOs into keeping quiet.

On top of AT&T’s $1 billion, the writedown wave so far includes Deere & Co., $150 million; Caterpillar, $100 million; AK Steel, $31 million; 3M, $90 million; and Valero Energy, up to $20 million. Verizon has also warned its employees about its new higher health-care costs, and there will be many more in the coming days and weeks.

The last paragraph says it all about the democrat’s trickery:

The Democratic political calculation with ObamaCare is the proverbial boiling frog: Gradually introduce a health-care entitlement by hiding the true costs, hook the middle class on new subsidies until they become unrepealable, but try to delay the adverse consequences and major new tax hikes so voters don’t make the connection between their policy and the economic wreckage. But their bill was such a shoddy, jerry-rigged piece of work that the damage is coming sooner than even some critics expected.

Byron York at The Washington Examiner has more on the show trials.

Waxman is also demanding that the executives give lawmakers internal company documents related to health care finances — a move one committee Republicans describes as “an attempt to intimidate and silence opponents of the Democrats’ flawed health care reform legislation.”

…Waxman has ordered the executives to explain themselves at an April 21 hearing before the Energy and Commerce Committee’s investigative subcommittee. That subcommittee just happens to be chaired by Rep. Bart Stupak, the Michigan Democrat who held out his vote on health care reform until a few hours before final passage on March 21, giving the bill’s opponents the unfounded hope that he might vote against it.

Waxman’s demands came Friday in letters to several executives. “After the president signed the health care reform bill into law, your company announced that provisions in the law could adversely affect your ability to provide health insurance,” Waxman wrote to Randall Stephenson, chairman and CEO of AT&T. A few hours before Waxman sent his letter, AT&T announced it will take a $1 billion charge against earnings because of the tax provision in the new health bill. AT&T also said it will be “evaluating prospective changes” to its health care benefits for all workers…

Waxman’s request could prove particularly troubling for the companies. The executives will undoubtedly view such documents as confidential, but if they fail to give Waxman everything he wants, they run the risk of subpoenas and threats from the chairman. And all as punishment for making a business decision in light of a new tax situation.

These democrats in Washington are nothing but thugs. They’ll try anything to keep the truth from coming out about their disastrous legislation.

Resisting ObamaCare, Gandhi Style

Americans will lose control over basic decisions if this law stands.

President Barack Obama came into office promising hope and change. But he might get more change than he hoped for. By foisting ObamaCare on a deeply unwilling country he might have set the stage for the largest civil disobedience movement since the civil rights era, which, if it plays its cards right, could undo his legislation and his legacy.

President Obama is betting that come November the bruising, yearlong battle that he has just dragged the country through will be a distant memory. But that profoundly underestimates the dismay of a large segment of the public that sees what he signed Tuesday as a fraudulent piece of legislation based on fraudulent thinking backed by fraudulent facts enacted through a fraudulent process. (Yes, Americans do care about "process," Mr. President. It's another name for representative government.)

President Obama tried for a year to convince the country that the cure for rising health care costs and the swelling ranks of the uninsured was a de facto government takeover of the health care system--only to be rebuffed in poll after poll. And if there was any doubt as to where the public stood, it was put to rest by Republican Scott Brown's stunning December victory in Massachusetts, the land of Big Government.

But instead of backing down President Obama went for broke using tactics more reprehensible than the "business as usual politics" that he had pledged to change when he came to office.

First, there were the budgetary magic tricks that he and his Congressional enablers got the highly respected Congressional Budget Office to perform. The last CBO assessment--that pushed the bill through--showed that the Obama plan would reduce the federal deficit by $138 billion over 10 years. The reality, once all the double counting and fantasy savings are eliminated, is that it will add $562 billion.

But the CBO is not the only entity whose honor Democrats have violated--perhaps beyond repair. Federal taxpayers will also get royally screwed when they have to pay for all the sweetheart deals that Obama's Cogressional minions cut behind closed doors and whose true scope will only become apparent in the coming months. (Bart Stupak is rumored to have gotten $700,000 for airport repairs as his sell-out price.)

Worst of all were the shameless parliamentary tactics that Democrats deployed. The Founders deliberately constructed many roadblocks for new laws to prevent elected officials from straying too far from the will of the people. But Democrats could care less about parliamentary niceties.

They are poised to use the so-called nuclear option or "reconciliation" to square the House and the Senate bills. This option will allow the Senate to circumvent the normal committee process to make fixes to the House bill through a simple majority without risking a filibuster. But reconciliation is meant exclusively for budgetary matters--not ramrodding sweeping social legislation on a party-line vote. This is why the Senate parliamentarian--a completely nonpartisan figure--has to approve its use for every fix. But Democrats are poised to have Vice President Joe Biden overrule him should he dare to stand in their way. In short, instead of bending the cost curve, President Obama is bending the rules of accountable government.

It is hardly surprising then that Americans are feeling a growing panic as they watch their constitutional republic descend into a banana republic. President Obama is fond of quoting Mahatma Gandhi's line that "we should be the change we want to see." But Gandhi also said that "civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state has become lawless and corrupt." Americans instinctively understand this which is why pockets of resistance to ObamaCare are already emerging. The question is only whether they can be constructively harnessed into a grassroots, Gandhi-style civil disobedience movement powerful enough to undo this monstrosity.

The prerequisites for any movement's success are credible leaders and a moral high ground. The first means that opponents of ObamaCare cannot--cannot--let Mitt Romney come within sniffing distance of their cause. He is trying to position himself at the forefront of the Repeal ObamaCare movement to further his presidential ambitions. But he couldn't be a worse spokesman given that as governor he was responsible for implementing a universal coverage program in the Bay State that is identical in every essential respect to ObamaCare, including the individual mandate. He has to be banished from every anti-ObamaCare panel, podium and platform lest the movement be accused of partisanship and hypocrisy.

As for maintaining the moral high ground, ObamaCare opponents have to be very careful when invoking rhetoric from the revolutionary period. Tea Partiers quote the Founders, especially Thomas Jefferson who said that the "tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants." But any hint of violence--even inadvertent--will compromise their cause because there are crucial differences between our colonial and current rulers. The colonial rulers were monarchs who used violence to extract taxes from Americans to enrich themselves and their motherland. But Democrats are imposing mandates to force Americans to do something for their own alleged good--and taxes to redistribute wealth among Americans. This is wrong and completely at odds with the spirit of American freedom and self-reliance. But the Repeal ObamaCare movement can only succeed if it convinces potential beneficiaries of redistributionist policies of the rightness of its cause.

This can't be done by threatening a civil war--even metaphorically--against them. Gandhi's ahimsa--or nonviolent resistance that seeks to change minds by a firm and calm expression of one's own conscience --is a far better strategy.

To this end, the perpetrators of ObamaCare must be defeated in November and 2012. But right now it is entirely appropriate for Senate Republicans to stall the reconciliation process as much as possible. They are right in calling every point of order that they can--if only to call attention to the bill's manifest corruption. Likewise, the 30-plus states that are issuing sovereignty resolutions and exploring ballot initiatives that would protect their residents from Uncle Sam's coverage diktat are on the right track. Even if these efforts are ultimately thrown out in court because federal law trumps state law, they will make a powerful statement against the coercive nature of ObamaCare.

But the lawsuits that have a shot at sticking in court are the ones that various attorney generals around the country are preparing under the Constitution's commerce clause. This clause gives the federal government expansive powers to regulate interstate commercial activity. But it has never before been invoked to force Americans to purchase a product as a condition of lawful residence in this country. This crosses a line that might well make five Supreme Court justices balk.

Any strategy of nonviolent civil resistance has to first make a good faith effort to achieve its end through the available political and legal means. But there comes a time when changing the law requires acts of conscience.

For opponents of ObamaCare that time is Dec. 31, 2013. That's when the individual mandate will go into effect. If ObamaCare hasn't been repealed by Congress or nullified in court by then, its opponents would be justified in urging Americans to refuse to buy coverage or pay fines and dare authorities to come after them.

By some estimates, Uncle Sam will need to hire an additional 17,000 IRS agents or so just to enforce the coverage mandate. But even if a few million Americans simultaneously refuse to abide by it, they could easily overwhelm the system. Self-rule or swaraj, Gandhi said, requires a collective understanding of the immense capacity of citizens to "regulate and control" the coercive apparatus of the state through mass nonviolent resistance.

President Obama and his fellow Democrats are counting on this resistance petering out. That could happen. But it will be a lot easier for opponents to maintain this zeal in the age of social networking. Facebook already has numerous groups with millions of members demanding the repeal of ObamaCare. It won't be impossible to mobilize enough of them when the denouement arrives.

After all, this issue is not just about the fate of an industry. It is about maintaining control over basic decisions about one's own life and health. The stakes are too high to let ObamaCare stand.

14 States Sue Federal Government to Stop Unconstitutional Obamacare

FIRED UP! READY TO GO!
13 states sued the federal government Tuesday morning after President Barack Obama signed his Obamacare bill into law.
The AP reported:

Republican attorneys general from 13 states are suing the federal government to stop the massive health care overhaul, claiming it’s unconstitutional.

The lawsuit was filed immediately after President Barack Obama signed the overhaul bill Tuesday. It names the U.S. departments of Health and Human Services, Treasury and Labor.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is taking the lead in the lawsuit. Attorneys general from South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, Utah, Pennsylvania, Alabama, South Dakota, Louisiana, Idaho, Washington and Colorado are joining in. Other GOP attorneys general may join the lawsuit later or sue separately.

Bretibart has more:

The lawsuit was filed in Pensacola after the Democratic president signed the bill the House passed Sunday night.

“The Constitution nowhere authorizes the United States to mandate, either directly or under threat of penalty, that all citizens and legal residents have qualifying health care coverage,” the lawsuit says.

Yeah, that Barack Obama… He sure is a uniter.

UPDATE: Missouri becomes #14.

UPDATE: Carol added this–

I just heard two legal analysts on Fox say that they both didn’t think that the states’ law suits would prevail because the government (cleverly) designated the IRS as the enforcement agency of the bill, that it could thereby be construed as a “tax” and the government has the right to levy taxes for the general welfare. They do…but since when is the government mandating that consumers buy insurance from private insurance companies considered a “tax”? If they had managed to pass a public option they might have a weak point but, they cannot claim that that the mandate is a “tax” if the product of that mandate is a purchase from a private insurance supplier. This is simply NOT constitutional!! It is the “penalty” alone which could be considered a tax, and that revenue would wind up in the treasury where taxes belong. Am I right about this? It makes perfect sense to me but I am not a lawyer.

So in essence, the tax argument would only be valid about the penalty, not the mandate. So their argument would be reduced to we will “tax” you if you don’t buy insurance from a private insurer, and the choices are extremely limited due to the consumer being forbidden to cross state lines to purchase insurance. Theoretically, this could be a government sponsorship of a monopoly. I also bring to your attention that the IRS is an agency outside the judicial system and therefore the burden of proof would be on the taxpayer and not on the government and thus is a grossly unfair system and the taxpayer will have almost non-existent recourse against the government. (i.e. the government can put a tax lien on you if you do not comply and you have to prove you are innocent not the government has to prove you’re guilty. If you have a business, the government could conceivably shut you down until you comply.

Obama Administration Restores Full Funding to Corrupt ACORN Org.

ACORN is the largest radical leftist group in America today.
This radical group worked closely with the Obama camp during the election but, the community organizing group was not open about the relationship. The photo below was scrubbed from the ACORN website before the election:

One of Barack Obama’s first big “community organizer” jobs involved ACORN in 1992. He worked along side ACORN before he became an elected official. Obama also trained ACORN employees. He represented ACORN in court. Obama worked with and protested with ACORN. His campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN in 2008 for voter registration efforts.
And, ACORN even canvassed for Obama in 2008.

In 2009 Obama promoted a top ACORN operative, Patrick Gaspard, who’s organization was fined $775,000 for election violations, to a top post in the White House. Gespard is helping shape domestic policy today.

Barack Obama was not honest about his relationship with ACORN.

Obama’s ACORN group was banned from receiving federal funds in September after the group was busted on tape promoting the child sex slave trade. But, it didn’t last long. Here’s the latest…
Matthew Vadum at Big Government reported that the Obama Administration restored full funding to ACORN this week:

In a March 16 memo Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Peter Orszag quietly ordered federal agencies to resume funding the group whose employees were caught on hidden camera videos last year condoning a variety of crimes including child prostitution and tax evasion.

Change!… 43% Now Strongly Disapprove of Obama – Same As Bush When He Left Office

Rasmussen’s Thursday release shows that after 14 months in office President Barack Obama has achieved Bush’s 43% of the people strongly disapproving of his performance, but Obama is still 10% ahead of Bush in those who strongly approve (23% v. 13% for Bush)…

…Imagine how unpopular Obama would be if the press and the late night comedians (who are at least as important as the press) treated Obama as they treated Bush.

Imagine how unpopular Obama would be if the state-run media would just report the truth:

Obama Administration Spamming Federal Employees With Pro-Obamacare Emails

This is entirely inappropriate.

The White House Office of Health Reform Director Nancy-Ann DeParle has been feverishly sending out unsolicited email messages to federal employees in an effort to build support for President Barack Obama’s health reform package over the last several weeks.

DeParle’s unsolicited emails have been regularly coming to some federal employees’ official government email inboxes for weeks without permission or request, causing some federal employees to feel threatened by the overt political language.

The Department of State employees, who receive hundreds of official government emails every day, have complained about the annoying and partisan emails but are nervous to go public for fear of retribution. The emails are addressed to the federal employees by name and use the official .gov address.

One problem with big government is that big government employs more people. Thus, you have a larger voting bloc who have an interest (their livelihoods) in seeing government get bigger and more powerful. It’s a big problem here in North Dakota where government employees (federal and state, including teachers) make up 1 out of every 5 workers. When 20% of the workforce is employed for the government, that translates into a big pro-big government voting bloc.

But what’s worse is when government employees are made to feel like they have to support big government..or else. I’ve heard plenty of stories about closet conservatives who work in government and are afraid to make their political leanings known. Not just because work usually isn’t an appropriate venue for political topics, but because they fear retribution and retaliation for having a limited government viewpoint.

It appears as though the Obama administration is taking that to a new level.

Baier's Obama Interview Reveals the Mood of a Man Whose Presidency is on the Line

President Obama is a man who rarely loses his cool. He’s a smooth customer who is able to charm with his words and moves – except when the audience is Fox News’ Bret Baier.

During his exclusive interview with President Obama, which aired on Fox News earlier this week, Baier, one of the sharpest and fairest journalists in the business deftly exposed a side of the President that the public rarely sees.

This rare window showcased a dismissive, pestered and unprepared commander in chief. When asked about how Democrats were planning on passing the unpopular health care bill, Obama wore his annoyance with Baier on his sleeve, and was resistant to engage with specificity. Baier, unwilling to back down, cornered him on the manipulative legislative tactics being employed by his party.

“If they vote against, then they're going to be voting against health care reform and they're going to be voting in favor of the status quo,” Obama said. “So Washington gets very concerned about these procedural issues in Congress… ”

Rules, schmooles, says the President.

He seemed unconcerned with the shenanigans of Democratic leadership and process, refusing to respond to Baier’s questions about tricks like the Slaughter Strategy, except to say the process was “ugly” no matter which party was in power.

Mr. President, you are the commander in chief and you campaigned on changing the culture of Washington, not riding shotgun to it.

Baier was firm, respectful and persistent. He pressed him on process and policy; Obama was devoid on details for both. For someone who has been working on this effort for over a year, you’d think Obama would have a better handle on the policy but instead, the process has been so convoluted, so complicated, and so perverse it was apparent that even he can’t keep up with the talking points.

He also, unintentionally, revealed that he is unsure what’s even in the legislation.

“By the time the vote has taken place, not only I will know what's in it, you'll know what's in it because it's going to be posted and everybody's going to be able to able to evaluate it on the merits,” Obama answered.

Shouldn’t we -- and shouldn’t the president -- know what’s in it before it passes?

In typical Obama fashion he tried to stonewall his interregator and run out the clock, but Baier – the only anchor to do so thus far -- rightly called him out on his trademark filibustering, in other words talking at length to prevent Baier from challenging him on his verbose responses. It was the most uncomfortable moment of the segment, and Baier should be proud. That took guts.

The interview was more than telling, it was symbolic. The contrast of Baier’s peak performace revealed an Obama at a career low. His questions revealed the uncertainty of our leader -- and thus the direction of our country, and reflected the mood of man whose presidency is on the line.

Obama Tells FOX News He’s Not Worried About Using “Deem & Pass” Trick to Ram Through Obamacare

Barack Obama told FOX News today that he was not worried about using the unconstitutional and unprecedented “deem and pass” trick to ram Obamacare through Congress without voting on it.

FOX News reported:

President Obama is not worried about the “procedural” debate over whether House Democratic leaders should go ahead with a plan to approve health care reform without a traditional vote, he told Fox News on Wednesday.

The president, in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, was responding for the first time to the controversy over a plan to use a parliamentary trick to allow the House to pass the Senate’s health care bill without forcing members to vote for it directly. The esoteric procedure has drawn fierce protest from Republicans who say Democrats are trying to avoid accountability, but the president said there will be no doubt about where lawmakers stand on health care reform.

Obama Off by 3,000% on Insurance Premium Savings

Obama told a group of supporters on Monday that with Obamacare their premiums will decrease by 3,000%.
They actually clapped and screamed when he pushed this ridiculous figure:

But, of course, this was not true. It wasn’t even close. In fact, even the AP wasn’t buying it, via Sweetness and Light:

Buyers, beware: President Barack Obama says his health care overhaul will lower premiums by double digits, but check the fine print.

Premiums are likely to keep going up even if the health care bill passes, experts say. If cost controls work as advertised, annual increases would level off with time. But don’t look for a rollback. Instead, the main reason premiums would be more affordable is that new government tax credits would help cover the cost for millions of people.

Listening to Obama pitch his plan, you might not realize that’s how it works.

This is another good reminder that Obama and democrats will say and do anything to get their horrid bill passed.

More… Major Kong is beside himself:

Well that’s not good news. I just applied for a Community Reinvestment Act loan to be provided by Fannie Mae, in which I listed as assets the huge savings I was to realize through the 3,000% reduction in my medical insurance premium. Now I may not get the loan. And if I don’t get the loan what hope do I have of getting bailed out when I can’t make loan payments?

What to do? What to do?

Hillary Clinton Spends $5.4 Million on Crystal Stemware for State Department

We have a tripled deficit but who cares – officials need their designer crystal stemware. Wait – didn’t President Obama say we were on the edge of another depression? What makes matters more interesting is that the interior designer passed up American firms and subcontracted the work overseas. Ah, Democrats. More on Crystalgate:

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s State Department is spending $5.4 million to buy fine crystal stemware for American embassies — but it won’t give the US economy much of a boost.

The contract was given to a tiny Washington, DC, interior designer, which in turn subcontracted the crystal work to a Swedish firm — snubbing such US companies as the famous manufacturer in Clinton’s own back yard, Steuben Crystal of upstate Corning.

The firm didn’t even get a chance to bid on the contract, which will outfit embassies and ambassadors’ residences with fancy crystal for ritzy functions.

Change! Muslims Hold ‘Kick Obama’ Rally in Indonesia

They love us. They really love us.

A Muslim student kicks a banner of President Barack Obama during a protest against his planned visit in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, Friday, March 12, 2010. Obama is scheduled to travel later this month to the world’s most populous Muslim country where he lived as a boy. (AP/Binsar Bakkara) Isn’t this racist?

Obama Hosts White House Movie Night With Tom Hanks

After bashing FOX News and conservatives, and praising Barack Obama last week, far left actor Tom Hanks spent movie night with the president at the White House.
Bashing FOX has its perks.
My FOX DC reported:

President Barack Obama hosted a movie night at the White House for Hollywood heavyweights Tom Hanks and director Steven Spielberg on Thursday – at which they watched a preview of the star duo’s new World War Two miniseries “The Pacific.”

The HBO series – shot in Australia – tells the story of the U.S. Marines’ struggle against Japanese forces in the Pacific.

Hanks and Spielberg – who worked together on WWII movie “Saving Private Ryan” and HBO TV drama “Band of Brothers”, along with HBO’s Gary Goetzman – were joined at the screening in the White House theater by military top brass, Fox News reported.

After the screening, Hanks and Spielberg dropped by the White House press room – apparently to inspect the espresso machine Hanks gave the press corps back in 2004.

A good thing too – as the star actor promised to buy the reporters a new one.

“This one is on its last legs,” he said, quipping: “You know, you are supposed to clean this after every use.”

He added: “We’re just trying to combat sleep deprivation, enjoy!”

Related… Bill O’Reilly blasted Tom Hanks for his inaccurate anti-American statements he made about his movie.

2,300 TURN OUT to Protest Obama at St. Louis Fundraiser… Top Dems Scatter!

OVER 2,000 TURNED OUT WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN ST. LOUIS TO PROTEST BARACK OBAMA!
…….But, top Democrats Scattered!

Bill Hennessy gave a great speech at the rally.

It was a huge turnout in St. Louis. 2,000 to 2,500 turned out in St. Louis to protest Obamacare.

UH OH:
Instapundit reported: Some Democrats shun Obama event in St. Louis. “The Show Me State briefly became the No Show State on Wednesday as some prominent Missouri Democrats decided they’d rather be somewhere else when President Obama came to St. Louis to push his massive health care overhaul plan.” Probably just scared of the St. Louis Tea Party juggernaut. People drove from as far away as Quincy, Illinois to make the rally. (We didn’t bus anyone in.)

There were a couple of hundred astroturfed HCAN and Obama supporters who showed up but they split early.

Kenneth Gladney came out to join the protesters. That’s Stephanie Rubach in the background.

These Purple People Beaters were really just powder puffs.

It was loud and it was awesome! What a great turnout to let Barack Obama and Claire McCaskill know that we don’t want their socialism! Protest Babes…

Thanks to StL Cyclist for a couple of these shots.

The St. Louis crowd came out in force. Bill Hennessy, Dana Loesch, Gina and John Loudon, Adam Sharp, Patch, Jon Burns, Jay Stewart, Robert B., 24th State, Spike, Stephanie Rubach, Ed, Brenda… It was a great event. It’s just too bad the top democrats decided to stay away. We wanted to greet them, too.

Sharp Elbows has more photos and video of a revolting leftist trying to start trouble at the protest.

Dana Loesch posted some great photos.

UPDATE: Keyboard Militia has more great photos from the huge anti-Obamacare rally including this one:

I was at the rally with my brother, his wife and my nephew who is a proud member of the US Coast Guard. Of course, I was packing. (my bullhorn)
